Artist Profile – Tony Lee Thomas Band – Play It Forward Oct. 19th at the Colonial

Tony Lee Thomas is gearing up for RockOn’s 10th Anniversary concert ‘Play It Forward’ at the Colonial Theater October 19th.

Band line up for that performance will be RockOn faculty members Chris Mattoon on drums, and Jeff Link on bass. TLT will introduce a new band member Jenny Porter on vocals. The band is wrapping up a very ambitious summer touring schedule.  As a followup to his most recent release “Across the Twilight Sky”, Tony is getting ready to record in November with plans for a new release in Dec.  You can hear Tony’s music on  or on Myspace.

Tony Lee Thomas has appeared with Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie,  Dar Williams, Jefferson Starship, Quicksilver, Big Brother & The Holding Co., Tom Constanten of The Grateful Dead, Albert Cummings Band, The Mammals, Max Creek, Strangefolk, Bobby Sweet and others. Tony along with masters Steve Adelson, Jerry Marotta, Barry Goudreau, Sib Hashian, and more join RockOn faculty and the Rock on Orchestra to ‘Play It Forward’ on October 19 in support of the RockOn scholarship fund.

A student of voice from age 4, Tony’s vocal endeavors have included classical technique, various choral ensembles, even barbershop and doo-wop quartets.  He has sung in, directed and arranged for many projects and has a deep understanding of vocal harmony. RockOn was lucky to have Tony as a member of the faculty.

Tony began guitar at seven years old with acoustic folk under Alice Spatz and was soon learning American Appalachian traditionals, and the music of popular artists from the 60’s including the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor.  He later studied with Alice again at age 12, began playing double bass and studied at the Pittsfield Music School.

As an adult performer Tony has focused on the electric guitar, song writing and performing all over the East Coast including The Bitter End, NYC, NY; Strange Creek Wormtown Festival, Greenfield MA; The Rhineborn, Keene NH; The Free Speech Festival, The Dreamaway Lodge, Becket MA; The Wobbly Barn, Killington VT; The Guthrie Center, Housatonic MA; Up or on the Rocks, Hartford CT; The Matterhorn, Stowe, VT; Mass MoCA, N. Adams, MA; Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Becket MA; ACME Underground, NYC; and also at SXSW, Austin, TX; Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, Okemah, OK; and in Memphis, TN and Washington DC.

RockOn is so pleased to have Tony as part of this 10th Anniversary celebration on October 19 in Pittsfield. Let’s rock this!!!
