Rock On Faculty – Chris Mattoon

mattoon

Chris Mattoon has been playing the drum set for 14 years. He is currently studying the drum set under R&B Legend Bernard “Pretty” Purdie and orchestral playing with Boston Symphony Orchestra member Lee Vinson.

Chris draws on knowledge acquired through studies with Pete Sweeny, Joseph Platz, Bob Weiner, Max Mattoon and Randy Kaye. Taking influences from a wide range of styles and genres such as R&B, Hip Hop, Hard Rock, Funk, Blues and Latin, Chris’ style comes from a thorough understanding of rudimentary drumming and groove playing.

Sharing his knowledge and promoting talent development in others, Chris is a full time teacher, instructing several students throughout Berkshire County on drum set playing and hand percussion. In addition, Chris founded Griffin Drum Works in 2003, running a full service drum shop specializing in new construction and full restorations of vintage drums.

Chris has been part of the Rock On workshop since its beginning.
