Rock On Workshop, in its 10th year, is a Summer program for teens and young adults, which gives young musicians an opportunity to work with some of the most talented players in the Berkshires and beyond.  This 3rd Thursday, Pittsfield will have a chance to Meet the Rockers! the musicians that make up the Rock On faculty.

TREOS,  aka “The Receiving End of Sirens”, an indie-punk band from Western MA, began in 2003 and went on to play on the 2005 Warped Tour. They have toured with such acts as Gatsbys American Dream, A Wilhelm Scream, 30 Seconds to Mars, Funeral for a Friend, Saves the Day, Senses Fail, Thrice, and New Found Glory. Their first headlining tour, “The New Hope Tour,” was in 2006.  Supporting the band on their first headlining tour were As Tall as Lions, A Thorn for Every Heart, Hit the Lights and I Am the Avalanche. The receiving End of Sirens has also been known to perform under the pseudonym The Red Eye of Soromon [sic], or if abbreviated, TREOS. As the band winds down it’s touring due to personal commitments and family matters, there are reports of a DVD surfacing this month.

Art Decade News – Remix Comps:

Remix Comps Contests is a site run by the same people that have been listing remix contests over on Remix Comps for more than 3 years. It is designed to be a complete remix contest hosting solution for remix contests.

Remix contests are created directly by the artist involved and sponsored by companies who have donated prizes. Remixers can create an account on the site and embed their remixes from SoundCloud.

ART DECADE created a REMIX Contest  for their song ‘Weapon’. The contest is open until May 22 and has already generated some great response >  Check out Nuclear Hobbit’s take on “Weapon’.

The Berkshire Anime and Manga Convention

The first major and large scale anime/manga/comic/gaming convention in the Berkshires, and we hope, Western Mass. BAMCon is an independently organized anime convention in the Western Mass metropolitan area.

As the lead singer, pianist, and lyricist/composer of the duo The Dresden Dolls, she appeared in videos, on major TV shows, and in many live performances including a debut at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.  The band developed a cult following and released their debut album, The Dresden Dolls in 2002 with indie producer Martin Bisi (NYC) . The Dresden Dolls launched a reunion tour in 2010.  Palmer has since started a solo career, and is also one half of the duo Evelyn Evelyn.

Amanda Palmer is no stranger to big productions. She has won many awards and staged musical and dramatic productions throughout her career.  This month, in support her new solo record tour, Palmer launched a fundraising effort on Kickstarter that generated $400,000 in a couple of days!!!!

Palmer says “since i’m now without a giant label to front the gazillions of dollars that it always takes to manufacture and promote a record this big, i’m coming to you to gather funds … i think kickstarter and other crowdfunding platforms like this are the BEST way to put out music right now – no label, no rules, no fuss, no muss. just us, the music, and the art. i’m also making sure EVERY PRODUCT sold through this kickstarter is unique to this campaign, to reward all of you who KNEW ME WHEN and were willing to support me from Day One.”

The fundraising continues through the month of May. On  ’Kickstarter’  she asks supporters for a minimum donation of $1, which gets them a digital download of the new album, and the rewards go up from there(including video shoots and live performances.

He is the lead vocalist of the original band Joined Forces, recently signed with Retrospect Records. Livio also sings in American Zeppelin, a true live Led Zeppelin experience. His classics cover band, Big Mojo, plays songs that are everyone’s favorites and including Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, and Journey, and the song list is ever evolving.

Livio is a trained musician whose early credits include ‘Vocalist 1st Tenor’ in the Springfield Young Peoples Symphony- Directed by Robert Gutter. He studied with vocal instructor John Cheney in Springfield, MA from 1974-1977.

As vocal instructor and performer for 30 years, Livio has taught private lessons and was also an instructor at Music-men music store, as well as at Brightside Org -school for abused children created by Sisters of the Providence where he volunteered for 2 years.

Livio’s acoustic project, Twisted Twins, performs acoustic classics along with his originals. They appear weekly at Villa Napoletana in East Longmeadow, MA (Wednesdays from 7:pm-11:pm).  You can also catch the Twisted Twins at The Yarde House in South Hadley, MA and in the summer months at Hampton Beach, NH.

When Joined Forces reunited after 20 years in the Fall of 2010, they played to a sold-out crowd at Black-eyed Sally’s in Hartford, CT . Simultaneously they landed a recording contract with Retrospect Records, and the reunion show also served as a cd release party.

Livio’s credits include studio recordings with such well known musicians as:

Roddy Colonna ( drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughn, Delbert McClinton )

Ian MacLagen ( keyboardist for Faces, Rod Stewart )

Jimmy Bell ( guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, House of Lords )

and others.

Now, along with his band Joined Forces, Livio is signed with Retrospect Records- #1 label for retro rock & metal.

Livio Gravini brings a wealth of talent and experience to the RockOn Workshop this Summer. This will be a great opportunity for RO vocal students to learn to how really rock.

One of RO’s founding faculty members, John Zarvis, reunites with Steve Adams, Greg Mosca and Pete Adams, the original lineup of Reverb to Rock the Brickhouse.

Great musicians, rockin music, and some tasty beers!!! Guitar jam?..they would have our vote!

Pittsfield’s Harbour Grace was selected to perform along with a great lineup of alternative bands in Albany. They performed today at 1:00pm @ Red Square as part of the MOVE Music Fest. The festival helps up and coming bands to get publicity and exposure to record companies, radio stations and the public. MOVE Music Fest takes over Downtown Albany, NY today – April 21!
